T’Challa – Medical Hold

Pug Rescue of Florida - T'Challa

Hello my fellow pug lovers! My name is T’Challa and I am a beautiful 6 year old neutered fawn male who came into the rescue through a kill shelter as I was found as a stray.

The volunteer who picked me up said that she had tears in her eyes immediately because I was so frail and weak but I was just a happy baby who was ready to start my new life. My little hairless tail wagged as I met her and I gave a few kisses right away (without the prompt of  a treat).

I am such a great cuddler and I love to give little kisses. I get along great with other dogs and I appear to be relatively potty trained. All in all, I am such a sweet baby and I am looking forward to not shivering when I got outside when I eventually have more fur grow in!

My foster family consists of comic book nerds and they really felt that I deserved to have the name of a king so that is how I got my name. It’s quite perfect, you see, because I am clearly wise beyond my years. Most dogs my age would be playing and and enjoying their life. I am just happy to have a bowl of food to eat and happy humans who let me sleep on their lap. My foster family says that I spend a lot of my time cuddling with my human and I just stare at them with my big brown eyes. If I could speak, I would probably say, “thank you so much for saving my life.”

My foster mom took me to the vet right away. All of the test results will be in very soon and she promises to give everyone an update on everything they learned about my condition.

UPDATE 4/5/18: Thank you soooo much for the love and support for baby T’Challa, the new superhero pug on the block! Baby T’Challa came in to Pug Rescue of Florida from Collier County Domestic Animal Services as he was found as a stray. Due to his condition, he was immediately taken to the vet and we’ve learned that this poor baby has so many health issues. 🙁 In regards to his skin, T’Challa has demodex mange, severe sunburn (that is why his skin is black and leathery), ringworm, and both a staph and yeast infection. The vet believes that he developed demodex mange because his immune system was compromised due to all of his other health issues. He has bilateral ear infections, bilateral eye infections, an old eye ulcer, and a few infected teeth that will need to come out eventually. He is incredibly malnourished and also has many skin tags that will eventually be tested for cancer. On top of all of this, T’Challa is also heartworm positive which adds many complications to his treatment. 🙁 Finally, the most heartbreaking news is that the vet thinks that he is ONLY around 6 years of age. It is so sad to see a young beautiful pug experiencing so many health issues that were truly preventable. Thankfully, Pug Rescue of Florida spares no expense with their foster pugs! Baby T’Challa is already on a host of medications and medicated baths and he is on the road to recovery. He will be carefully monitored as he goes through various stages of his treatment plan. His foster family says that he is such a sweetheart and just wants be held like a baby while staring at you with his big brown eyes. They said that he broke their heart the first night in their home because he just stared around the room in disbelief. It’s almost as if T’Challa was thinking, “wow…this is what it’s like to be indoors…and loved?” T’Challa has a long road ahead of him but he is soooooo happy to receive so much love and support! We will be posting more updates on T’Challa every few days!

At this time, we are not accepted applications for T’Challa as he is on medical hold. As you know, Pug Rescue of Florida does not spare any expenses for any of our pugs, especially the special needs pugs. If you would like to make a donation towards T’Challa’s vet care, please visit our donation page for more information.

Thank you so much for your love and support!
