Princess Ann (Adopted 12/2012)

Hello Everyone! This is Princess. She came to us in pretty bad shape. She was almost bald, emaciated, stinky and was the itchiest pug I had ever met. She had a severe infestation of fleas which caused flea dermatitis, a severe yeast infection on her skin and we just found out she has an under active thyroid that is being treated with 1 pill twice per day. All of these conditions combined were just too much for Miss Princess Ann and her owner. We have since gotten her thyroid issue treated, she is getting her dips and baths regularly and for the most part is not itching anymore! And did I say she smells so much better??!! She has come out of her shell and has quite a cute personality! She loves being close to her human and will sometimes let you know with a light tap of her paw (sometimes not so light!) that she wants a little scratch behind the ear. She gets around very well… She sees and hears just fine. Princess just needs that special someone who can give her the love and attention she deserves so she is able to flourish again. The old picture we have of her is one the former owner sent in… Quite a difference from then until now for Princess. Princess will look like this again. She just needs lots of love and a bit of time and this spunky senior gal will be as good as new. She gets along with other dogs (she is protective of her food bowl though) gets along with kids and is just one big love bug! Princess is looking for her Prince charming… Could that be you????

Update 4-2012

It’s been a long hard climb, but as you can see from her new photos, Princess (I call her Princess Anne) has made great strides. Getting to know and caring for this sweetheart, it makes me sick to think about how she must have suffered at the hands of her previous owner. Try to imagine being left outside in the Florida heat, scratching yourself raw from the fleas that you have crawling all over you and feeling like you are starving to death because you have an untreated thyroid condition. Pure agony is the only way to describe it. I am happy to report that now her hair has almost all grown back and it is beautiful and velvety soft. She takes inexpensive thyroid pills with her meals and is a happy girl again that loves to be paid attention too and of course is always looking for a treat. She likes to go for walks and ride in the car. She does have one cloudy eye but gets around fine…..I would not recommend her going to a home with lots of stairs though because of that. Another side effect from the months of starving, is her food aggressive towards other dogs. This not a problem though because she is a very smart girl too and knows to run and get in her crate when it’s dinner time. She will probably always be a bit itchy but if you will love her enough to make sure she gets good food, regular medicated baths and you keep an eye so her so things don’t get out of hand again, she can have a wonderful life and will love you for it. If you have room in your heart and home for Princess Anne, please send your application today to adopt her. She is a big sweetheart and needs a good pug home.
